Day 7, Evening - ...Down From the Door Where It Began.

I was giddy. I was in shock and awe. I couldn't believe I was moments away from the pub! The One Pub To Rule Them All.

Okay, that's stretching it a bit. Onward!

There it is! The Eagle and Child! This was a drive-by photo taken just in case we couldn't find a parking spot (which at the time, we couldn't). Luckily, we found one really close to the pub! I was, say, "stoked" to be there.

A picture of a picture of J.R.R. Tolkien walking in Oxford! It's one of several pictures hanging in the Rabbit Room. They had a younger one of him but I forgot to snap it.

Here's the wooden plaque seen in the Rabbit Room. This made me feel so giddy!

A chalkboard talking about the history of the pub. Sorry if you can't read it. Basically it says "Blah blah Tolkien and C.S. Lewis and friends..." You know!

And this is what my mom gets for taking a picture of me while I'm eating. The food was really very good, though! I was impressed. (And relieved!)

I call these men the Three Stooges of the Eagle and Child. They were there when I got there, and they're probably sitting there right now, waiting for another Tolkien tourist to traipse in. Seriously though, they were astoundingly kind and funny. The one on the left is Canadian (he's from Toronto - let's ignore him!), the middle one is Scottish, and the one in the red shirt is English. Like the beginning of a bad joke!

This is me getting cozy with the locals, hehe. The man in red had to leave to pick up a friend, so as I left I asked for a picture with these two cuties. After this, the Scotsman said "You're a lovely lady!" and gave me a snog on the nose! So I said "You're beautiful, too!" and gave him one on the cheek, heehee! It was a sad parting, yes. But one that we all must make. I guess.

A last picture of the inside of the pub. This is the entrance to the Rabbit Room, where I had the honor of eating under the pictures of Tolkien and Lewis. Oh, and snogging a Scotsman, too!

I just had to get this shot as I was leaving. Sort of like the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Olympics. They're there for tradition, y'know?

At last I say goodbye to the Eagle and Child and head back to the Travelodge for a good night's rest. It was a night I'll never forget as long as I live, because it just felt so comfortable to be in that historic spot. I know a lot of my friends are probably frothing at the mouth, but no matter. I was there, and it was good.
