Day 10 - The Land of the Red Dragon (Wales)

Lost on where to go for this last day, I made it clear that I would like to visit Wales at least for a little while. Leaving Axbridge, we first took a detour through the town of Cheddar, then the city of Bath.

This is a picture of the Cheddar Gorge. I didn't know it at the time, but while flipping through "There and Back Again: In the Footsteps of J.R.R. Tolkien", this place is mentioned as the setting for the Mines of Moria (it has fantastic caves). Funny, it looks more like the Paths of the Dead to me.

As I couldn't go on a pilgrimage to Canterbury, the next best thing was to visit the town of Bath. (I did this mainly for my English teacher. I played the Wife of Bath for the Canterbury tales, so I thought it was only fitting.)

After this little detour we took the toll road into South Wales and made our way right up the middle of the country. Several hours later, we finally arrived at Caernarfon castle just before closing time.

My batteries were failing so I only managed to get three pictures. This one is the inside of the castle. Where the girl in pink is standing is where Prince Charles was made Prince of Wales. Pretty neat!

A somewhat artsy photo of a really fat pigeon. This was while standing over a very large, very empty castle turret. Very, very, very scary.

And this is at the bottom of said turret! There were pigeons everywhere so I had to make a quick snap to avoid being hit by a pigeon pie.

We didn't have that long to stay as the castle was closing, so we went across the street to some gift shops. I got a glass red dragon (and a stuffed one!), and we took the main highway back to our home in Manchester. There were 12 calls made to the house that day, all from Nicola, whom I was to meet tomorrow. Yay, I couldn't wait!
