Leaving Oxford, we ventured south towards Christchurch. Objective: Take a picture of my aunt's house and
escape without her seeing us. An hour or two later with the objective completed (it took so long because dad gave us half a
map and we got lost), we sought through the forests of Devon for a place where we could stay the night.
I took this while on a detour from our path to get something to eat. Look at the brown sign and tell me that isn't really funny.
Random Scene shot! This was taken past Christchurch as we headed south-west. Obviously I didn't risk life and limb, so I shot
this from my seat in the car.
We managed to find our way to Moretonhampstead, and to the (extremely luxurious!) White Hart Hotel. The food was heavenly, and
the room was infinitely better than the Travelodge, and £20 cheaper! I took this the day we left, but this is one of the views from our window.
And there's another view, down the other side of the street!
Here's a view of our room. A very comfortable bed, stereo (that refuses to play my CDs. I hate that brand!), and flat screen TV. This place
is better than my room back home!
The reason I took a picture of the bathroom was to compare it to the one at home. I might just use this for decorative purposes!
Here's the lounge on the ground floor. Mom and I played dominoes for about an hour and a half that night. I don't think I've ever felt so
comfortable in a place I don't know. It just felt so right.
This is the front lobby. Can you believe the original building was built in 1639? Absoloutly beautiful.
This is the back patio area, perfect for lunch and a nice drink. We chose the excellent dining room instead.
I had a good night's rest, two excellent meals, and I got to know my mom just that little bit better. If ever I'm travelling in England by myself, you can bet I'll find this place somehow. As it was, we had to pack up and move out again, this time along the coast. |
