After a really exhausting morning spent trying to rent a vehicle and find our way back home, we bravely
ventured forth to central Manchester, and the Museum of Science and Industry. We were delighted when
we saw this sign for the Titanic exhibition! I couldn't wait to see it.
This is the largest chunk of hull salvaged from the Titanic. Apologies about the quality of the photo, but I had
to turn the flash off so they wouldn't throw me out for taking photos. I know, I'm bad.
I think this was the most fascinating thing I saw in the Titanic Exhibit. It's a clarinet retrieved from the wreckage. All the
metal that was on it is now corroded, of course. I just had to get a photo of this, being a former clarinettist myself.
One of the old engine displays they have in a warehouse. This is mainly for my dad, who's a retired engineer/mechanic.
Fairly old "de Dion" motorcycle. I'm a sort-of motorcycle nut. I wouldn't mind riding one of these puppies.
A nice looking steam locomotive. (No, I've no idea who the woman in the picture is. She was posing for a picture as I was
taking mine.)
This is the oldest existing train station in the world, and I think it was the first as well.
A slightly crowded shot of the aviation section of the museum. Lots of neat aircraft here, including a kamakazi plane.
This bad-ass can be seen trying to chomp down on Sigourney Weaver. Or, you can just waste your money and see Alien
VS. Predator. I just like this photo for the "AAH!!!" effect.
This is Old Trafford stadium, home to Manchester United. It's also home to that gorgeous Ruud van Nistelrooy. Oh, and
the Neville brothers. Yummy.
I... actually don't know who this is. It could be Ruud, but I doubt it. Oh well, he's a hot football player with his
leg up in the air. You don't see this pervy fangirl complaining.
Near the end of our day we were getting pretty desperate for something to eat, so we looked for the closest supermarket.
Luckily we got lost around a Sainsbury's, and as we loaded our groceries, I saw these two. I had to take a picture, because you
only get horses on patrol around Stanley Park these days.
All in all, it was an interesting first full day in England. I got to touch a piece of the Titanic, see downtown Manchester, and argue with my mom about what direction to go in since we were hopelessly and utterly lost. (A fact that would not change until the last day.) |
