Day 4 - A Stately Detour

This was a day I'd been waiting for - one where I would finally get to meet Trianne (her alias). I'd been looking forward to it all summer, and finally it was time for mom and I to head down to see her. On the way, we stopped off at the Lord of Devonshire's home, Chatsworth House.

We passed this pub on the road down to Chatsworth. I took it from the car. It just looked really funny, hehe!

A picture of a reservoir we passed. I just love English countryside, and thought this would be a good spot for another Random scenic picture.

Yet another view of the reservoir. I tend to like the other picture better, since you can see the dam in it. They both look equally nice.

Alright, here I cheated. I scanned the house guide we picked up. It just so happened that I didn't have a good picture of the house itself. But you wouldn't know, would you?

This is part of the mural on the ceiling in the Painted Room. The entire room depicts Julius Caesar. The ceiling is of Caesar coming to heaven after being stabbed by Brutus. Caesar's the one with the star above his head, on the left hand side.

A view of the Painted Room at the top of the stairs. Directly across from the camera is the painting of Caesar being stabbed.

Now, I think this is Venus, but I can't quite remember. This was at the top of the second set of stairs. Kinda freaky how they got those things up where nobody can reach them.

The bed that Mary, Queen of Scots slept in. Thrilling, isn't it? (The people on the other side asked permission to go view a Dutch painting, I believe. I wasn't really paying attention at the time.

An outside view of the landscape and fountains, all done by Capability Brown. I'm sure Samwise Gamgee would be proud.

For the life of me, I can't remember what this painting is called. Mom made sure I saw it, though. She says it's one of the most famous paintings in the world. Since it's in the chapel, I bet you can guess what the painting is about.

This was my absolute favourite statue throughout the entire house. It's the god Mars being restrained from wrath by Cupid. Wrath restrained by Love. All carved out of one piece of marble. Simply fascinating.

This is a real, live Rembrandt, "Portrait of an Oriental". I was in awe when I saw this. I mean, it's a Rembrandt! Right there! Close enough to touch! And the man looked so real in the painting. It was just a phenomenal thing to see. (And the fan was very welcome.)

This would be me, sitting on the lawn that Capability Brown created. There were tons of people there picnicking and having a great time. Please ignore the pudge, I wasn't having a good body day, haha.

Chatsworth turned out to be the best stately home I visited on the entire trip. It was still, however, a diversion from that evening's real plans. So we hopped back in our car and headed south of Yorkshire, so that I could finally meet Trianne. Ohh, the excitement!
